OUGD504- Laser Cutting Primary Research

By following the instructions above I now feel confident in using the laser cutter. It will be an interesting option that I could use in my designs.

There were a few materials that are not possible to cut:

- Reflective surfices
- Brown Lino
- Metal

The image above is the four options that the laser cutter provides:

- Cut through - cuts design out
- Engrave - has depth to the cut
- Kiss cut - cuts the surface
- Raster - fills in the shape by cutting lines close together

Each colour on the software relates to the cutting options:

Red - Cut through
Green - Engrave
Violet - Kiss cut
Blue - Raster

Below is an raster image cut into MDF. I didn't know you could do this with laser cutting so I have learned a new technique which could be interesting to experiment with in the future.

Here are some examples of materials that can be laser cut:

Grey lino

Glass

Card

Acrylic

Wood
